The first team in Smorgon was formed in 1978. A professional football club under the name «Stankostroitel» was founded in 1987. The team took part in the Belarusian championships from 1992 up to 1994 but showed bad results. As a result in 1994 «Smorgon» started playing in a regional tournament. In 1998 the club returned to the nationa championship and in 2002 got promoted to the first league (D2). In 2006 with head coach Georgi Kondratiev the team finished second and won promotion to the Premier league. In 2007-2009 «Smorgon» played in the top division, were it best achievement came in 2008 when the team finished eigth. In 2009 «Smorgon» ended up last in the table and returned to the first league.
